Background…

Mention the food Tutu Kueh and images of white, flower shaped, moisture filled kueh come to mind. This is because Tutu Kuehs have become synonymous with being a street snack in Singapore.

How Lau Tan all started…

In 1949, Mr Tan Hay Swee started the first generation of Lau Tan Tutu Kueh.

Dating back to the 1940’s, in the market setting at Kampong Bahru, a group of immigrants from the same village in china carrying the surname TAN, gathered original recipes to bring the healthy, authentic and traditional snack named ‘TUTU’ into the streets of Singapore. While the term ‘TUTU’ comes from the hokkien word ‘Push’, ‘TUTU’ was also the sound the steamers would make when cooking the snack.

Back then, it was not a shop like you see today but a cart which would be pushed around.

Ingredients such as rice flour, sweet coconut and grounded peanut were meticulously hand made to give good flavor and smells.

Where we are today…

3 generations later, we still hold that same tradition. Unlike many Tutu Kueh sellers in Singapore which just buy flour off the shelf and steam it, we do not. Our flour is all hand made. We pound the rice which has been carefully chosen to maximize the texture and taste retaining that authentic flavor.

We hope that you will come down to any of our stores and try the Tutu Kueh for yourself. We are sure you will not be disappointed!
